No, that image to the left is not my office. It is just a close approximation of the image in my head of the office I think I should have as a web entrepreneur.
I am always surprised when I see the workspace of a successful blogger, real estate agent, or web based business person. Typically I have this grandiose vision of an inspirational sitcom like loft office, with majestic views of the ocean, city, or mountains.
In reality it often turns out to be more along the lines of the Craigslist world headquarters. (pictured to the right) Or the headquarters of one of the worlds leading web based dating site, plentyoffish.com. Who's founder Markus Frind operates out of his spare bedroom in his Vancouver condo. (NBC video link) But operating out of his modest spare bedroom doesn't stop him from bringing home almost $30k a day from his website!
To the left is a picture of my workspace. Like Markus, I also work out of a spare bedroom in my home. In fact most of the people working at AR do. (Please forgive the lame quality of the picture. I took it with my iPhone.)
I am curious what the workspaces of my fellow Rainers look like.
*To help move this post along I am offering 300 bonus points to anyone who uploads a picture of their personal office in the comments of this post in the next 24 hours.

I only removed a couple of files. I am not showing what is behind me!! Or the fax table to the right of me!! I am surrounded by "stuff" files, books, flyer projects on the floor - but what a fun thing to do!! Have a great day!!
Thanks for being the first to offer up a picture of your workspace. I like the two contracts on your desk. Nice touch! ;)
Jo,
Great shot! What is that thing in the left corner of your office? It looks like some type of organizer.
Here's a byte of mine.
I don't have a full view picture in this computer but that's my desk space.
My Assistant Sammy making sure the computer behaves itself....just a typical Sunday morning checking what's happening on-line before going to my Open House.
PS, I did tidy the piles (Sammy's filing "system") of papers, Sammy prefers them scattered all over the desk, she claims it's easier for me to find them...I am not convinced though. : )
Hey Deborah,
Thanks for the picture. You are lucky to have such an insightful assistant. Where did you find him? Craigslist?
Also, do you mind if I ask how much you pay him?
Hi Jonathan,
Sammy was a co-worker at a company I worked for about 8 years ago, she was the personal assistant to the CEO. Eventually he realized that she was too needy and demanding to make a good assistant for him, so I hired her. Upfront hiring bonus was $1,200, on going payroll costs "a lot", happiness and headaches...priceless! : )
Jonathan, if you are thinking about adding an assistant like Sammy, give me a call and I'd be happy to tell you more...and there is much more to know before taking that step.
This is mine. Sorry about my lack of attire but I wanted to make the deadline and my one set of cloths is at the dry cleaners.
So much clutter, so little time
The furniture people just got it set up for me this week and I am so glad to have an office at my house. It's a work in progress...so excuse the mess.
We just moved so my office space isn't set up yet... I'll post once as soon as it is, though!
Thanks for sharing yours :)
Just a basic spare bedroom right now ... but someday, maybe something like this.
The saddest cubicle winners was something.... There was one picture in there that could have been taken where I work. :(
I am amazed, most people who posted pictures here have pretty minimal or clean spaces... most places I see are disasters. I'm going to have to bring my camera in and take some pictures.
Jon - I came across this post on your Outside Blog. I realize that I am a little late in the game, but I figured that you might want to see the digs that your uncle Dan is providing these days.
