Interesting. Are these through AR?
One of these days, I hope to make this list!
Jonathan, thanks for continuing to compile this list and sharing it with all of us.
"Interesting. Are these through AR?"
To use "AR Speak", these are all "outside blogs".
These are Non-ActiveRain or Outside Blogs. I updated the post title to make that point clear.
I had no idea there were sooooooo many.
Wow, this is a great list. I'm so happy to see so many people outside the big companies on there. Should I spend more time on my outside blog? yes, I think so. But, I have so much fun here......
Thanks for the list !!
Congrats there missy....#56!!!
Thank you so much for compiling this list....I was doing this the old fashioned way and it was taking a long time!!!
What is the criteria used for these rankings?
Mitchell,
We are using the average traffic rank from alexa.com and compete.com to compile our rankings.
This is a great list and really shows who is doing a strong job in the blog world.
A lot of old favorites on here...and a lot of new ones to look into!
Jonathan...
It sure would help us a lot if the folks in our market knew what a Blog is. We'll keep trying to push them into the 21st Century :)
By the way...Google alerts and AR are playing nice together for a change :)
TLW...ROAR!
As always, thanks for the honorable mention!
Cool list. Gives me more recreational reading room... :)
Hi Jonathon! This is great list! I can use this list to see how I can improve my own! How did you determine the rankings? Thanks,
Hi Jon,
Is this list supposed to be all the real estate blogs in the blogishere? I checked the alexa rank and compete rank for my outside blog nycblogestate
alexa rank: 1,554,311 and compete rank: 789,311 the average is 1,171.811 - Should my blog be on this list? There are other real estate blogs in NYC that rank better than me but they didn't make the list either.
My calculations rank my blog #64 on the list.
Hi Jon,
I think my site www.buffaloniagararealestatehomesales.com makes the list with:
Compete 341,099
Alexa 299,130
Average 320,114
great info
Thanks for the mention Jonathan...now I'm on a mission to move up!
Jonathan,
Thanks for the update. Amazing how blogging went from 0-100 in no time.
All the best!
Man... no respect... 1,065,822 on Alexa and 711,539 on Compete. avg. 888,680.5
LaneBailey.com
Jonathan - thanks for the mention - Respres has gotta love being #1 over Inman - Kewl! So many blogs..so little time - lol :)
Jon: I have a question... I like Jeff Turner and real estate shows just as much as the next guy (if not more!), but when Alexa is showing that only 3% of the traffic to realestateshows is going to the blog subdomain (http://res.realestateshows.com), isn't it a bit unfair to include the rankings for the "total" domain for his blog? Dito for Inman, which Alexa is showing only 10% of traffic goes to the blog...
Jonathan,
Thank you for the info..just an FYI, blog isn't considered a word in the AR dictionary...and actually, it show's an Error and does not correct any words...checked it on purpose the other night...
I didn't have time to read all the post's here and perhap's you answered this, if not, it would be a next great post for you...What is Alexa...and how do we utilize that to our benefit?
I really don't know that much about Inman either...I know it's there...but should we link to it?
Please do tell. I'm sure I'm not the only one that doesn't understand this.
You fabulous computer people are doing a great job at making AR a fabulous place...I just wonder how many of us member's had Computer Science in college or not...I graduated when we were still doing our own programming...I'll bet half of the member's here are self taught and need a little help...like me... :-)
P.S Since I joined 9/11/07, I think the membership almost doubled...Congrat's to you guy's for making this a marvelous place to meet other professionals...Great Job! Best, Karen
I had no idea so many existed thanks for putting the info together.
Jonathan, thank you for the links and the explanation. I will enjoy reading them...I already went to Sarah's. These stats are really good to see. thanks!
Later in the rain~Deb
Thanks for the list. Suspected that there are many out there, but it is great to have compiled together.
Wow, that is an amazingly comprehensive list. Thanks for the info.
That is a great list of blogs. I will check out some some of them. Thanks.
You're going to get buried in comments here :).
If you add to the list check out my Seattle condo blog, http://www.urbnlivn.com.
Alexa rank is 457, 647 and compete rank is 372, 726.
Thanks for the info....have to read some of these.
woo ooh I'm (mortgage porter) off the list...what did I do wrong?
Nice list we have here, 2 of my Favs have moved up it seems Geekestate and Transparent, kudos to all!
Well there should be plenty of inspiration amongst all of those blogs. Thanks for putting it together.
Dustin,
I think you are right. I was talking with Bob this morning about dropping them off the list next month.
Thanks for the comprenhensive list. It's nice to have it all in one place. Now if only there was time to read them all.
Wow! Doubt I'll ever make that list. Too many people have a big head start over me.
Ahem...Jonathan, buddy...
The Seattle Condo Blog --- Alexa 370,806, Compete 203,570....average 287,188...that'll be #26 on the list.
Quantcast...150,465 +/-
Interesting Jon... I was racking my brain about a way to include the two sites but without some type of tracking on the blogs themselves, it's a bit too much to ask of Alexis and/or Compete.
On a related note... I noticed that Quantcast has started publishing rankings. I've found their data to be the best of the (free) bunch, so I wonder if you could include them as a variable into the future.
Also of interest... It appears Curbed is getting just about as much traffic as Inman (at least in terms of measurements from these two sites). The difference according to quantcast is even greater! And it's kind of a messy chart, but interesting to see what happens when you throw realestateshows.com and activerain.com into the mix.
Oh what a great list (again) and the comments too! XXOO Dustin! Thank you very much.
wow that is alot of blogs to keep up with...how do people find the time??
I believe I'm missing from list for my Arlington Virginia Condos and real estate blog:
alexa rank: 797,271
compete: 401,678
average: 599,474 = #41 on "outside" re blogs
Peace out. Not that my opinion is important, but I strongly believe real estate consultants should focus their attention on their blogs found on their own domains....Actually everybody, keep blogging on 3rd party sites. That's what you should do :)
Is anyone else scared of getting tied up in another blog? there are only so many hours in the day, and we can not forget the basics, out in public face to face with the client when ever possible should be the main focus. Technology is great, but not a substitute for meeting a client
Great list, I couldn´t agree more on the top ten (though Im kind of surprised with TruliaBlog not entering the top five ). I am a regular reader of most of the top 15, and , It is great to see that not only the big names are part of the list. Just this morning I was listening to mitch´s Six Pixels Of Separation podcast, where he says that it is good to see how the new internet allows small companies to compete with the big ones by taking advantage of the web 2.0 revolution. kudos to all, and congrats to Ines from miamism.com!
Realestateshows.com should not be at the top of the list because their blog get a small percentage of their domains traffic. Their tours make it number one.

Jon - Thanks for the list. There are a lot of interesting blogs here to check out.
Thanks for adding us Jon!
It seems we have some work to do :)

Jonathon, Dustin is correct. We should not be considered for this list. First, because we don't even attempt to focus our blog on anyone other than our clients. And second, for the very reason Dustin indicates. Our blog gets an even smaller percentage of our daily traffic than Dustin said that Alexa indicates. But that's really the problem, Alexa hasn't a clue. By including us on this list you're truly comparing apples to oranges.
That said, I feel compelled to point out that it's hard to make an argument that any of these numbers are even close to being accurate. I can only use our actual numbers as a measure and Compete's numbers come "closer" to our actual traffic numbers than Alexa, but that's a relative statement. They're closer and they are still off, on the low side, by percentages that would choke a horse. It's not even close.
Jonathon, I'm at a loss for why anyone continues to use these systems to make judgements about anything. Alexa is, for lack of a better way of putting it, completely worthless. I've written about this before. It's undeniable. And if Compete's numbers are as bad as they are for a site that gets as much traffic as ours does, I can't imagine how far off they are for everyone else. The less traffic you get, the further off their estimates are. It's just that simple.
In addition, the Quantcast "Panel Estimate" shown for Real Estate Shows in Dustin's graph is off by very, very large percentages on the low side as well. It may be accurate for those it directly measures, but the panel estimates are not even in the right ballpark for us. Again, it's comparing apples to oranges. So, this list may be fun to look at, but it's not possible for it to be accurate. Even in relative terms.
So, Rudy, I'm pretty sure we don't really know how much work you have to do. :)
You're right Jeff, Alexa, is far from accurate and compete is closer, but still no cigar. And, I don't expect them to be. They are just starting points to give you a ballpark idea when comparing fruits and vegtables :)
Rudy
Jonathan, regardless of the controversy over the accuracy of the various ranking systems, I still think the list is impressive. Also, #53 and #54 are both Jonathan Dalton...he did a URL change recently to #54. Thanks again for including me.
Steve, there's no controversy over the accuracy of the various ranking systems. They're not accurate. And it doesn't really matter. Their inaccuracy doesn't mean the list won't be fun to watch.
Awesome!

Great info and thanks for doing the legwork. One day we'll be on the list - I hope! Ufortunately my blog, www.AccordingToCole.com, is ALL POSITIVE news geared to equip the real estate professional with positive facts in the midst of all the doom and gloom media articles blasting the real estate market.
Try www.loannetter.blogspot.com for general loan information, then get ready to borrow at www.netcredit.blogspot.com and finish up with a dose of DYI or better at www.buildnet.blogspot.com
Why write one blog when you can write three? Cheers! Susan
Thanks for the mention, Bob! Just two more, to crack the top 50... if only I knew how to make that happen!
Several commentors asked if this was a list of all real estate blogs. It's not even close. I have almost 300 real estate related blogs in my feed reader (all "outside" blogs). And there are hundreds and hundreds more.
I have to agree with the great Jeff Turner's take on the Alexa and Compete rankings. They aren't even cloe to right for my blog. I doubt they are close for anything. If they are off teh same amount for everyone, then the rankings would still be close, but I suspect they are ALL OVER the place.
None the less, it's a fun list to watch, and it's helped me find some new blogs to read. I can't believe Jon goes through the pain of updating this thing monthly!
We're all competitive, and it's great to see your blog on the list (and it bummed me out to drop from #10 to #13), but traffic isn't everything! It's the *kind* of traffic you get that really matters, and what you do with it.
Heck, if I just got 10 visitors a month, but they all bought or sold a home, I'd be writing this comment from the Bahamas!
I am surprised that 3 Ocean didn't make the list but other less known blogs did.
And ahem, (my ego is talking here) I know I only talk about staging but I still rank higher on alexa on the last few blogs on the list ;) But Jeff is right, lists are silly, our work matter more :)
Cheers,
Cindy
Johnathan - Really nice list with a lot of familiar names of course. It would be great to know which of these blogs are "do follow".
How about opening it up to all of North America... there are some great blogs up in Canada - www.edmontonrealestateblog.com, http://www.teamfisher.com/blogs/norm_fisher/default.aspx, http://www.bobtruman.com/blogs/bob_truman/default.aspx and lots of others!
Thanks!
Sara.
I will be bookmarking this page and will make an effort to go thru and read each and every one thanks.
Still no love for MyTechOpinion?! Gosh, what's your beef? We are a pagerank 6 blog with great real estate info for agents? Going to cry now....
@Nik Nik - waaah.... ;) MTO should be there. It's a great blog. See ya in SF in a few weeks!
Thanks for love Jay!
Page rank 6 aside....MTO is not just another real estate technology babble blog...but real how-to info and resources for implementation. But I guess we all have to have our own opinions!
www.miamicondoinvestments.com is off the list as well.
Ack! www.LasVegasRealEstate4u.com got delisted!
Alexa rank - http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/lasvegasrealestate4u.com #1,838,299
