This is great informatin to have, thank yu so very much
Jon,
What does the plus and minus mean? or no plus or minus?
A little explanation would be nice. What do the numbers mean? What are the rankings based on? Where is ActiveRain?
Hate to sound like an idiot, but I don't get it. I am guessing this is google indexing, however, for who, for what?
How terrific to see some of the Active Rain members listed..like Bryant, Jim, Margaret, Maureen,Brian and whoever else I missed.
Thank you for sharing---this is why you are the success you are---your unselfish attitude--please don't change!
THis is great...I am from Reno/Sparks and have never seen the Reno Realty Blog. I would love to know what the plus and minus indexes are as well. One day you will see me on this list.=)
+ and - indicate whether they moved up or down in ranking from the previous time frame.
Very interesting to see who is at the top. Some day I want to be there
Hi Jonathan...Barry here...thanks for the mention of Real Estate Radio USA. I did not realize that you would be doing this again so soon and I forgot to submit our new local real estate blog.
The Fort Lauderdale Real Estate Blog was launched on April 28, 2008 and in just a few months, we would be in the 39th slot on your chart here. Not bad company!
Our combined score is 436,000. We have worked very hard to build the Fort Lauderdale Real Estate Blog and the utilization of Active Rain helped quite a bit in dribving traffic.
Look forward to seeing the Fort Lauderdale blog on the next update of your list.
Jonathan,
Well the way I see it. If you are on this list it is a good thing. The only thing counter-intuitive to me is the average numbers getting bigger as you go down the list.
I am just checking out all of the blogs and seeing what it takes to become successful.
I figure it does not hurt.
How does Activerain as a whole stand comparatively? Am I missing it or is this just independent blogs or team of bloggers?
Thank you for the information!
George
Thanks (again) Jonathan for putting this together.
All the "+/-" indicates the change since last months list. For example, my blog is at #8, with a +5. SO it went up 5 places from last month, when it was #13.
The number is an average of Compete and Alexa rankings.
This also explains why the numbers get bigger as you go down the list. Compete and Alexa rank wesites based on traffic (and do a very poor job of it according to most). So the sight with the highest traffic would have a Compete/Alexa ranking of 1. Less traffic = bigger number (since the site is further down the list.
These are indivdual blogs (well, and multi-author blogs) "outside" the rain. AR isn't on the list because it wouldn't be comparing anything similar to a blog hosted on it's own domain.
And no, it is NOWHERE near a comprehensive list. But it's a fun look at some great "outside blogs".
I was looking for something like this to help my non-blogging associates. Thanks for providing a short cut to some interesting resources! Aloha, Kelly
Woo hoo... I AM somebody. Thanks for putting the numbers together. I'm really excited to be on it.
Thanks for investing the time to put this together, Jonathan, even though I slipped by 19. Only thing I can figure out is that I was gone or almost six weeks, and without Internet access most of three weeks. I guess we'll know that's the reason if it improves next month!
Really amazing how much interest and activity there is when the market has been so crappy !
What does the +/- mean as well as the average? Intesting blogs
Thanks
Wow!!! I feel like it is Christmas!! Just to be able to learn from these blogs and bloggers - the books to read, the concepts to chew on, the chance to see what makes a blog incredibly successful. Many thanks Jonathan!!!
I am sorry Jonathan, I do not see what you are doing here. An explanation please on the source and number ratings you are displaying?
This is a very iteresting group of Blogs here.. thank you for sharing
"I am sorry Jonathan, I do not see what you are doing here. An explanation please on the source and number ratings you are displaying?"
"What does the +/- mean as well as the average?"
David / Richard - I explained it in the comments... posted 8/15 8:53pm
Thanks for the inclusion in your list Jon!
What is fun is finding the up and coming real estate blogs. Some great stuff is out there.
that's kinda interesting. See that we made the list, which makes us happy of course. do you put this out every month? This list is also helpful for us to better and quicker identify places where we want to go... and comment.
That last PR update did some damage...but I see some slow climbers at the same time. It's nice to see them all in one list
Congratulations Broker Bryant!
How cool is that! I recognize a lot of these titles and feel fortunate to rub "shoulders" with these great bloggers. ;-)
First I want to congratulate all AR members on the list. You guys must be doing something right. And Jay, I want to thank your for the explanation. Without it, I would have been lost. AJ
Fun to see blogs I know on 'the list' - of course, I also can see why I am not on the list! :)
Thanks Jonathan,
Still can't figure out why Compete is not picking up my blog -- but we are 1,935,481 for Alexa... and our traffic according to Compete.com is higher then TheLandlordblog.com (currently #75 on the list above.) -->
http://siteanalytics.compete.com/lasvegasrealestate4u.com+thelandlordblog.com/?metric=uv
Hmmm... Compete says that we only had 801 visitors for July but my internal stats show over 2,000 for July... I've got to figure out how to play this game.. :)
Slipped 8 slots this month? Guess I gotta shift gears and start pedaling faster.
I find numbers like these quite interesting. I understand what they mean, but find it puzzling how the numbers get assigned. I have not been posting on my blog for awhile now and yet it moved up 4 spots. Cool for me, but puzzled by that. It will be interesting to see how it moves when I do get back to posting regularly again.
It's nice to see so many people I know on this list - congrats to all.
Ann
Interesting information---Just wish I had the time to read each and every one.
Jon, I'm surprised I'm even on there. I've not been blogging much lately. I guess this serves as the kick in the pants to get back to it!
Lots of great reading material I am an avid reader of about 10 of these. But there are quite a few in the top 20 that I have never stopped by. Thanks for the list and identifying some additional blog reading material for me.
Jon,
I think the list is really interesting but I REALLY hope that you'll answer the questions above. I was looking for answers as I read the comments.
Jon, I have neglected my outside blog, been so busy on localism the past few weeks. I need to do better, thanks for doing this, I always appreciate seeing it.
I am glad to see a lot of Activerainers moving up the blog list!
As I am beginning an outside blog, this is great information. I want to check out many of the blogs to get ideas of how to create mine the best I can. Thanks for compiling the list. I understand the + - randing but is there a link to check this ourselves and do you enter certain ones or these are all the top ones that come up but doing an overall search?
Loved seeing all the AR peeps on the list. Congrats to all of you blogging giants!
Hi Jonathan - nice list you have put together. I looks like there are quite a few AR all stars.
It is great so see so may familiar names showing up in the rankings! Good job!
Yikes!!! I best get busy with my outside blogging. Maybe my blog is too niche. Glad I made the list though.
This gets my competitive juices going! I just recently met the Indianapolis Blog person listed up there, she's my hero! I think the point of all of this is that it does matter that you blog consistently and use your titles, taglines, etc appropriately and to get the best bang for the buck. It's great to just be able to talk about real estate without paying a fee and watch your postioning improve.
I guess I better get my outside blog going. I just like AR too much!
This is very cool...I am impressed by the number of AR members on this list!!!! Yet one more goal to add to my list... get on this list. I don't know what BB is complaining about!
Wow! As Diane notes - a lot of AR memberss - some I've even referred to! The exposure is amazing.
Jonathan-
As always, thank you very much for inclusion in the list. I honestly can't fathom how it is I've soared past so many amazing bloggers. I'll have to double the pay I'm offering my family members...
It's also good to see that Mr. Dalton is back on the list after his domain change, not to mention how many AZ blogs are on the list.
Love the obsession with bloging! Looks like I have a lo of reading to do. Started my first post this morning on my AR blog, I've got major work to do!

I clicked through to learn more about these successful blogs. I was surprised to see that some of them have broken links. I'm not talking about third party links in posts, I'm talking about basics. On one blog I clicked "Archive" and got a 404 "page not found" error. I wanted to send a private note to the owners to let them know, but the "Contact" link also returned a 404 error. It's great to celebrate success, but it's also important to periodically check for broken links. How is your blog going to generate leads if your contact page isn't working? More likely readers will take the snarky advice on the page (WordPress suffers from a bad case of faux hipsteritis) and "punt" because it's not their fault they ended up "totally in the wrong place."
Frank, you make such a great point - I have found my blog with temporary glitches here and there so my advice is to have contact information all over the place just in case. I have my number on the header and the left column, also the contact form and in a couple of other places. Glitches are common, you just hope they don't happen right when a customer is trying to reach you.
Yippee!! Las Vegas Real Estate finally ranks on Compete.com making the average 1,440,751... Whew.. did not want to get delisted on the next update!
Thanks!
