jonwashburn: 7 SEO Secrets to Dominate your Local Market

7 SEO Secrets to Dominate your Local Market

All of these suggestions are free to implement and will generate very high quality incoming links and a pretty healthy amount of traffic.

You can use your ActiveRain profile just fine with each of these items but you will likely generate the best results with your own Individual Blog. (If you don't have an Individual Blog yet click here to get one.)

Please note that pretty much all of the items below require that you have a free account with the applicable website.

1. Submit yourself to Google Local. Make sure to put in your blog or profile URL in the website entry form field.

2. Add your blog to Local.Yahoo.com.

3. Submit your blog to Yelp!

4. Create a blog post for everyone of your listings and submit the URL to Google Base.

5. Create a blog post for everyone of your listings and submit the URL to Craigslist.

6. Add links to your website, ActiveRain profile, and your Individual blog, on your LinkedIn profile page.  Your LinkedIn profile is second only to your ActiveRain profile in terms of Google Juice.

7. Add yourself to YellowPages.com. The search engines tap this database to populate their Local search results.

(The cow above looks very dominating; similar to the way you will look to your competitors if you implement these strategies.  In case you were wondering, that is why I chose it as the picture for this post.)

Thanks for the info. This reminds me that I have to go clean up the Activerain profile LOL. ~Rita

My linkedin profile recently shot up to #5 for the term real estate in my area. 2 days later my facebook page was up there as well and both are still hovering. That outranks my website, my blog, all my other profiles, my company's website, and 99% of the agents in my area. Why? Not sure yet. Might be my blog feeding it content but I cant tell yet.

Google base is fun. I have read some good posts on how to control that as well. You can really rank well on there.

Google local. I show up as the first result for a lot of terms in my area. I cant complain about that. One other trick is you can enter more than once (dont tell anyone in my area please!)

Jonathan- Thanks for some of these tips. I put our office on our google local business directory and got one listing from that! Nothing to sneeze at for 5 minutes of effort!

Most of the things you have listed here take very little time. You get 80% of your best SEO from only 20% of your SEO activities and usually it is the smaller things to do that give the greatest dividends.

Funny about Yelp. I learned about Yelp from ResPres at NAR. I just went back on to check things out since I did not particpate with Yelp do to some other pressing matters. But I just took a peak just now and just as I suspected nothing for my town. In fact under Restaurants, I looked and said, WOW, some reviews, but when I clicked on who did the reviews it is some guy down here for the season from Long Island! He is not even from here!

Just like Twitter. I love Twitter and use it to connect with awesome people all over the world, both in and out of real estate and got a listing from an agent who does not live here anymore, and a buyer from CA to buy a 2 M $ ranch. But when I went on Twitter, guess what, there are 3 Twitterers in my town!

We are NOT Seattle! LOL! Katerina

Brad- What time is the radio show? It is really hard for me to listen to radio shows when our phones are ringing. I am in the middle of training our new listing manager and we have 15 of our listings with contracts on them. I have two lenders to talk to tomorrow to finish up on negotiating the best deal for our clients and 3 new short sale intake evaluations to do with homeowners who need to list and do a short sale. Intake evaluations- I do them over the phone and take about an hour each. ( saves a lot of time driving to and from their properties). So can you give me the scoop another way? Thanks! Some of us got to walk our talk and get those listings and sales:)

Great info Jonathan!  Thanks for sharing.  For the person that asked what S-E-O stood for it is "Search Engine Optimization."  Its the process of organically improving volume & traffic to your website.  I'm sure that there are Rainers that have expertise on this subject matter like Jonathan.  But I've definately learned that the only dumb question is the one not asked!
